That says a lot about a band’s commitment to creating a fan base and respecting the people who keep them touring. The drumming is powerful, while the guitar and bass work together as one to pace the music.Īll across the world these guys are selling out shows, almost purely on word of mouth. And while there are no huge instrumental leaps and bounds like TOOL, these guys still have the chops. The progressions are deliberate, helping to create a sense of spacing between verses, and they’re not afraid to let a chorus pull the song along. Despite the band’s relative youth, the lyrics are smart, deep and relevant. There are some very solid songs included. A powerhouse lead singer, Ian Kenny, can hit the high notes, but also knows when to add a hum or two to help the riffs along, without overpowering his mates’ (Drew Goddard and Mark Hosking, guitars, Jon Stockman, bass, and Steve Judd, drums) musical contributions. Lyrically, however, it’s a different kettle of fish. Their sound is very much like TOOL, in structure and progression. Australian rock band, Karnivool’s first full-length album, THEMATA, should please fans who are having the shakes between TOOL releases.
